2025 National Rally, Day 5 , 4/4/25

 A treat  today, Heather offered us Effie, the Front Wheel Drive (FWD) to drive.

A 1928 Fixed Head Coupe (built by Martin & King, Australia), it is quite cozy (read small) inside and with quite heavy steering it can be quite a challenge, especially at parking speeds.

It is quite lively on the road and it required your constant attention but in the corners it is amazing and goes wherever you point it, you just have to be careful to point it in the right direction as the steering is very direct and requires a delicate touch, especially at speed.

 I found the gear change a delight to use and very forgiving for a "crash" box, unlike some 12/50's I have tried.  

First stop today was Cooma Cottage, after a quite scenic drive along the Murrumbidgee River. Cooma Cottage is one of the oldest rural buildings in the Yass Valley, built in 1833 it subsequently became the home of Hamilton Hume, of Hume and Hovel explorer fame. Hume lived in the cottage for 30 years.

Next stop was the Murrumbateman Country Inn hotel for a spectacular lunch.

From there it as recommended the attendees visit some of the many wineries or the Robin Rowe chocolate factory, however we chose to go back to the Motel so we could start packing for our departure tomorrow.

 First stop today, collect our hire car (a VW T-Roc), generously, Don and Jill rose to the occasion and drove us ove to the Hertz depot in Queenbeyan.  The offto the Deep Space Tracking Station at Tidbinbilla where a very interesting talk on their work and also the universe and is there life out there.(Apparently we haven't found it yet but it's more than likely although it may not be "life as we know it".   The on to "Cuppacomalong" for lun ch and a look at the gardens. We finished the day with a tour of Lanyan Homestead, a historic home set up to display what life was like in the mid 1800's and early 1900's. 2025 National Rally, Day 1 Rally to the Rally, 28/3/25

  Thanks to the excellent work of Noeline, who sadly, along with Alan, couldn't attend, a rally to the rally took place to get some of us to Canberra.   Maritta and I, being  on the eastern side of Melbourne chose to meet other ralliers in Sheparton, some from the west, traveled to Nagambie on Thursday and the Sheparton for lunch on Friday.   First stop, the magnificent MOVE Museum in Sheparton for a look at the display, then lunch before motoring on to Corowa for our first night stop.    The collection has exxpanded dramatically since our last visit. It now holds part of the Farran bicycle collection, the Thompson gown collection and also a large display of trucks and prime movers.    Defenitely worth a visit. 2025 National Rally, Day 2 Rally to the Rally, 29/3/25

  Day 2 saw us traveling from Corowa to Cooma via the Murray Valley and the into the Great Dividing range. Sadly, Daisy decided to disgrace herself just outside Adaminaby (we think/ hope She has done a headgasket) so we had to get her sent home.   Dasiy was rescued by NRMA and RACV and we where kindly rescued by Jill and Don Bosanquest, who took us to Cooma and then Canberra the next day.   Daisy motoring along nicely Long empty open roads And wonderful scenery Up in the high country now Daisy crossing the Great Dividing range (1500M)
